York and Front Burrard. Field Watch meets dress watch.

How great is that case?

How great is that case?

York & Front are a Canadian based microbrand founded by friends Henry and Eric. What started as a conversation between two friends, soon became the nucleus for the brand as they sought to build the perfect watch.  Seizing upon their roots, they have attempted to blend the ruggedness of the West Coast with the refined sophistication of Toronto.

The Burrard is Y & F's first offering, slated to hit the market in November 2020. Y & F have already entered the market with some gorgeous watch straps, available on the Burrard or separately

The case is constructed of 316L stainless steel, with brushed sides, and polished chamfer transitioning to a polished fixed bezel. The case design is classic, with an almost vintage feel to it and the finishing oozes with quality. The caseback sports the usual mix of specs and a deeply engraved Y & F logo.
Hiden behind the caseback is an STP 1-11, a Swiss made automatic movement. Essentially an upgrade on the venerable ETA 2824, with 44 hours of power reserve and solid accuracy of -0/+15 seconds per day.

The dial and handset are an intriguing mix of classic and modern. Although it is a new take on a field watch, it retains the essence of a classic. The matte black dial has great depth, causing the brushed applied arabics to really pop. The hands reach all the way out to line up with the dial markers. In the end, the dial and hands retain the character of the field watch, with a refined and upscale twist.
The Burrard is supplied on an incredibly comfortable two stitch, calfskin strap. The strap features brushed and etched hardware and a nuback lining. It's the kind of strap that surely will provide years of service and age well.

Not just a field watch.

Not just a field watch.

York and Front have clearly spent their time on the design and it shows. The case is phenomenal, with finishing that is a step above. The brushed arabics add style and sophistication to the classic field watch. The long hands are not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think they work great. Particularly the red tipped second hand, which showcases the sweep lining up perfectly with the outer chapter ring.
If you are looking for a field watch that can do it all, the Burrard is there for you! With its high end finishing and Swiss movement, it is equally at home, in the office, or the outdoors. Henry and Eric have spent their time bringing this to market and you can pre-order your own in November 2020.
