Is there such a thing as too many watches?

As something of a watch nerd I find myself wondering if my collection is too big? Or do I really need another watch? More often than not, it's the result of a conversation with my wife.Despite my usual insistence that there is no such thing as too many watches...I have too many watches.

I acknowledge the insanity of this statement, but let me explain my reasoning. My modest collection has exploded over the last few years, particularly since I joined Instagram. A constantly updated feed, full to the brim with amazing watches ensures there is always a new "must have" addition to my collection. It has allowed me to shift my focus to my next purchase, often before my latest purchase has even arrived. Mix Instagram and YouTube with Ebay and you have a recipe for an overflowing watch collection.

If you're still reading I'm sure your wondering, How do you know you have too many watches? Here is my simple three steps to confirm if you have too many watches.

Step 1. How often do you find your watches scattered all over the house? If it's more than four times a week, you may have too many watches.

Step 2. Do you have any watches that you haven't worn in over a month? *sentimental watches don't count. If you do, you probably have too many watches.

Is this too many?

Is this too many?

Step 3.Can you wear a different watch everyday for a month? If you can, you definitely have too many watches.

Now it’s not all doom and gloom. There are things you can do about it. You can always downsize your collection, sell a watch to help pay for a nice holiday or give a great gift to friends and family.

Despite my insistence that I have too many watches, my solution is to buy another watch box.  That should atleast give the watches a nice home while they wait for their next bit of wrist time.
