Duzu DW-D2.

A brutish tool diver, brought to you from the thunder down under.

There are a few things you will instantly notice about the Duzu DW-D2.

  • Angular case, complete with protruding crown guards.

  • A clean, no-nonsense dial, and

  • It’s weight, this is a heavyweight

While the case is angular, it’s definitely not an homage. The vertical sides of the case, lead into aggressively tampered lugs. This gives it a diameter of 42mm and a lug to lug of 49.5mm. The crown guards push the diameter out to 46mm, despite the bulky design it remains wearable due to the manageable lug to lug, fitting my 7 1/2 inch wrist with ease. Although angular in design, there are no rough edges and it wears well.

The dial is understated, featuring the Duzu logo under the 12 o'clock, DW-D2 above the 6 o'clock, porthole style indices with almost a sandwich dial feel and large 3, 6 and 9 hour markers. A matte black dial, ensures the legibility of the dial. It’s offered with either BGW9 or C3 lume. The black lumed bezel is a nice tough to the overall tool feel, although it could use more lume to keep up with the dial and handset.

The stainless steel bracelet features solid end-links, and an engraved, ratcheting, milled clasp. The engraved caseback has a real industrial vibe, complete with hex bolts and a sapphire crystal porthole.

Powering the Duzu is either an ETA 2824-2 or Miyota 9015. It’s nice to see a microbrand depart from the everyday NH35A movement. Both movements feature 28,800 bph and solid power reserve. These are both solid movements found in numerous, pricier watches.

Coming to Kickstarter on 01 August 2021, the DW-D2 will be priced from $329-$389, with regular retail at $549 (prices are approximate, as prices will be in AUD). It definitely pays to get in on this one early. Duzu have given watch collectors, a well finished, unique and damned tough tool diver. If your looking for the next thing on Kickstarter check it out.
