MATHEY TISSOT MT369 - AMWG Exclusive

The Mathey-Tissot MT369 is brought to you by Asia Mechanical Watches Group, a popular Facebook group. While it was created exclusively for AMWG, it is available to the rest of us now through their shopify store. This isn’t the first AMWG watch, but rather their latest installment. If you haven’t checked them out, do yourself a favour and do it, they’ve got some great exclusive watches.

The Mathey-Tissot MT369 is loosely based upon the Rolex Air King ref. 5500. The MT369 features a smaller sized case, and similar styling to the 5500. And because of the 34mm case, it’s a perfect unisex watch. It's equally at home on my 7 1/2” wrist and my wife’s much smaller wrist.

The case finishing is a classic mix of brushed and high polished finishes. A grippy, signed crown, and a polished fixed bezel round out the classic styling of the MT369.

The Mathey-Tissot is topped with a domed, sapphire crystal with a healthy dose of AR coating. The crystal has the classic feel of an acrylic crystal, with much improved durability. The matte black dial, and white 3-6-9 markers and indexes, along with minimal bagding give the MT369 a classy, understated vibe. The slightly modded, Mercedes handset is an interesting twist on the classic. Trading the Mercedes logo, for a Mathey-Tissot logo is a tasteful update. While maintaining the feel of the original, the casual observer probably wouldn’t even notice.

Powering the MT369, is the Peseux 224, a Swiss made, 3 hand automatic movement. A new movement, available since 2020 it reliably beat along at 28,800bph. With 38hrs of power reserve its a solid alternative to an ETA movement.

The supplied bracelet features solid links, solid end-links, and a true three link articulating system. It has a decent amount of micro adjustment, along with a milled, signed clasp, and a nice amount of tapering. It is a solid upgrade, with the fit and finishing of a high end bracelet.

As nice as the bracelet is, it does lead to my only whinges. The double headed, micro screws while reliable once fitted, required a healthy dose of patience. After several mental health breaks, and a a few dabs of loctite the bracelet not only looks good but is damn secure. Just don’t expect the sizing to be as smooth as a pin and collar system, it will reward you with durability once complete though. My only other gripe would be the 50m of water resistance, while perfectly suited for daily activities. 100m of water resistance would have elevated this to a true daily wear watch, deserving of consideration for a budget one watch collection.

While there are some small complaints, these are minor and largely forgotten during your daily wear. With a surprisingly low price tag the MT369 delivers so much. Swiss made, automatic movement, classic styling is paired with exclusive mods, a heritage brand name and quality specs, all for under $400. With the trend towards more modest sized watches, the Mathey-Tissot MT369 should be near the top of your budget conscience list. Never a fan of oversized watches, this is a trend I can really get behind and the MT369 will definitely get alot of wrist time.
